KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team topped off a successful opening weekend of conference play today in style as Alex Fultz has been named MIAA Position Player of the Week.

A junior from Warren, Fultz was a strong contributor for K in a pair of doubleheaders with Trine over the weekend. Fultz went 2-for-3 in a series opening 8-6 win on the road Friday, hitting a pair of doubles and also scoring a run. The Hornets dropped the second game in extra innings, but Fultz was again efficient at the plate going 2-for-3 with another double and an RBI.

Fultz was only getting warmed up as the series shifted back to Kalamazoo on Friday. In an 11-1 victory in game he went 3-for-3 at the plate, knocking in four runs, hitting a pair of doubles, and scoring a couple himself. In game two he hit yet another double, going 1-for-3 and scoring a run to help K to a 7-4 win and a 3-1 start to conference play.

For the season Fultz, a catcher, is leading his team in doubles while hitting .308, slugging .538, and recording an on base percentage of .455.

He is being honored as MIAA Position Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
