KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After closing the season on a five game winning streak to clinch a second place finish in the MIAA, the Kalamazoo College baseball team wrapped up the season today by placing three players on All-MIAA teams as Ryan Orr and Jordan Wiley were named to the First Team and Alex Fultz was named to the Second Team.
Orr, a senior from DeWitt, wraps up a decorated career with his third straight appearance on the All-MIAA First Team. Orr was once again one of the best pitchers in the conference this season, finishing second in ERA at 1.81, tied for second with eight wins, and tied for fourth with 60 strikeouts.
He led his team in wins, complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts, and ERA for the fourth straight season. Orr threw his second career no-hitter against Olivet this season to become the only pitcher in Kalamazoo history to throw two no-hitters. He was named MIAA and NCBWA Pitcher of the Week and also to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week following that accomplishment.
Orr also picked up a save in relief for the team this year and batted .368 at the plate, driving in 14 runs and stealing 10 bases. He finishes his career has the program leader in wins, saves, ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, shutouts, and no-hitters.
Wiley, a junior from Rochester Hills, earns his first First Team All-MIAA honor after a record breaking season, tying for the lead in the nation with 38 stolen bases this year. In the MIAA, he has more than twice as many stolen bases as the next closest player.
A shortstop, Wiley was outstanding at the plate, hitting .366 and leading the team in plate appearances, hits, runs scored, hit by pitches, and on-base percentage this season. After just three seasons he is already the Kalamazoo career leader in stolen bases by a wide margin with 99 and has been hit by the most pitches in program history. With 28 stolen bases in MIAA play this year he now also holds the conference record for steals in a season.
Fultz, a junior catcher from Warren, was an all around consistent performer for K this season. Playing in 37 of the team's 39 games, he hit .325 at the plate, leading the team with 10 doubles. He finished second on the team with 29 RBIs and 21 walks to bring his career walk total to 74, good for second most in a career at K.
Fultz has been outstanding behind the plate for K in his career with a .989 fielding percentage and this season caught Orr's no-hitter. For his efforts this year he was recognized as MIAA Position Player of the Week twice.
The Hornets finished the season 20-19 overall and 17-11 in MIAA play.
