Baseball Drops Two to Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Hope at Woodworth Field on Saturday, 6-4 and 10-9.

Game One

Hope led 3-0 after the second inning and held that lead until the bottom of the fifth when the Hornets pushed a run across. The Flying Dutchmen added three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 6-1. Chase Coselman homered in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2. Kalamazoo scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on second base when the final out was made.

Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game highlighted by Coselman's home run. Hope had eight hits.

Game Two

Hope scored four in the first inning and two in the second to take the early 6-0 lead. Hope led 7-0 after four innings before the Hornets scored three in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3. Hope responded with two more in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the eighth to go up 10-3.

Kalamazoo chipped away with two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to make it 10-7. The Hornets made it 10-9 with RBI hits by George Cutler and Jordan Wiley in the bottom of the ninth, but the tying run was left on third as the game ended.

Jordan Wiley, Chase Coselman, and George Cutler each had two hits in the game. Kalamazoo finished with 12 hits while Hope had 13.

Kalamazoo returns to action Tuesday, April 9 with a home doubleheader against Trine beginning at 2 p.m.
