Baseball Splits With Gustavus Adolphus

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader with Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday. The Hornets lost the opener 4-2 before winning the second game 7-4. With the win in game two, Coach Ott became the winningest coach in program history with 173 wins.

Game One

Gustavus scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed in the game, despite leading just 3-2 after three. Gustavus added a run in the fifth and kept the Hornets off the board the final four innings of the game.

Kalamazoo had nine hits in the game compared to just four by Gustavus. Kalamazoo left 11 runners on base.

Blake Bean, Spencer Baldwin and Harrison Poeszat each had two hits for the Hornets. Baldwin also scored twice.

Braden Mussat struck out five batters in four innings of relief. Joe Wade and Cade Thune each struck out two batters in an inning of work.

Game Two

After trailing 3-1 after two innings, Kalamazoo scored one in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead. Each team scored once in the seventh leading to the 7-4 final in favor of Kalamazoo.

The Hornets had nine hits in the game compared to six by Gustavus.

Cooper Mills was 3-for-3 with a double. Ben Chosid had two hits including a double and four RBIs. Max Gordon had a triple.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to wrap up its spring trip Wednesday with a doubleheader against Park-Gilbert.
