Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept the season series with Calvin after a pair of wins on the road Saturday, 19-9 and 14-3.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored in each of the first four innings and led 9-3 after four. The Hornets added a run in the seventh before exploding for nine in the top of the eighth to take a 19-3 lead. Calvin scored six in the bottom of the eighth before being retired to end the game.

Kalamazoo had 21 hits in the game compared to 10 by the Knights.

Harrison Poeszat had four hits including a double with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Ryar Rinehart had four hits with five RBIs and five runs scored. He homered in the first and fourth innings.

Cooper Mills, Lukas Bolton, Cam Kelly, Tanner Hawkins and Robert Newland each had two hits. Kelly, Hawkins and Newland each drove in two runs.

Jacob Davis earned the win on the mound, striking out two in six innings.

Game Two

Kalamazoo trailed 1-0 after two innings before scoring two in the top of the third. Calvin tied it with a run in the bottom half, but Kalamazoo responded with four in the fourth, three in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh leading to the 14-3 win in seven innings.

Kalamazoo outhit Calvin 14-6.

Harrison Poeszat was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Lukas Bolton, David Stechow, Robert Newland and Logan Lockhart each had two hits. Stechow, Newland and Lockhart each drove in three runs. Newland had a triple, while Lockhart homered in the fourth.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to complete the series with Hope with a single game at home on Tuesday, April 18, at 4 p.m.
