Jacob Davis of the Kalamazoo College baseball team was selected as the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday (Apr. 8). This is the second time in his career that the junior has earned the conference honor.

The Hornets continued MIAA play with a three-game series at Calvin on Apr. 5-6. Kalamazoo took the series by winning the first game 3-0 and the third game 5-2 while dropping the second game 7-3.

Davis was the starting pitcher in game one against the Knights and turned in a gem. He threw his second complete game on the season, allowing just three hits in the shutout with six strikeouts. The three hits are the fewest in a nine-inning complete game since Horace "Hod" Fenner allowed four hits against Notre Dame in 1921. All three hits were singles for Calvin, and Davis also walked just one in the nine innings.

On the season, Davis is 4-1 in seven appearances (six starts) with two complete game shutouts. In 37.2 innings, he has a 2.63 earned-run average and a 0.98 WHIP with 24 strikeouts compared to eight walks allowed. The junior is 9-6 in 22 appearances (18 starts) for his career, with four complete games. Davis has a 4.62 career ERA in 97.1 innings with 86 strikeouts.

Kalamazoo will continue conference play with road and home midweek games against Hope on Monday (Apr. 8) and Wednesday (Apr. 10) before playing Adrian in a three-game series with a home game on Friday (Apr. 12) and a road doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 13).
