HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team fell in the second game of the MIAA series against Hope 8-5 after committing seven errors on Wednesday (Apr. 10). The Hornets' record fell to 17-6 (6-2 MIAA) on the season, and the Flying Dutchmen's improved to 12-12 (6-2 MIAA).

Scoring Plays

After allowing an unearned run score in the top of the first inning, Kalamazoo took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. Hope got two quick outs, but three straight singles by Harrison Poeszat, David Stechow, and Ryar Rinehart (RBI) scored the first run. A Flying Dutchmen error helped the Hornets score two more before the end of the inning.

There were zeros on the board until the sixth inning when Hope scored another unearned run to cut the Kalamazoo lead in half. Then, a big seventh inning by the Flying Dutchmen saw them take an 8-3 lead, with four of the six runs in the inning being unearned.

The Hornets did get one run back in the bottom of the seventh as Rinehart collected his second RBI single. Kalamazoo made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth by loading the bases and scoring one run on an error. With the go-ahead run at the plate, Hope induced a double play to end the game.

Pitching

Robert Ahlgren made the start and lasted 6.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Owen Schihl (1-1) was credited the loss after facing six batters and not recording an out. Schihl allowed five runs (one earned) on two hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch.

Blake Parpart got the Hornets out of the seventh inning without allowing another run. Chase Cummins worked out of a jam in the eighth with two strikeouts, and Jaden Williams threw a scoreless ninth with a strikeout.

Hitting

Ryar Rinehart finished 3-4 with two RBI and a walk. David Stechow was also 3-4, and Alex Fenkell finished 2-4 with a double. Harrison Poeszat had two hits and a walk.
