Baseball Has Season End in MIAA Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team saw its season come to an end with losses to Adrian (3-2) and Hope (6-0) in the MIAA Tournament on Friday (May 10). The Hornets had a record of 30-11 in 2024, while the Bulldogs (28-14) and Flying Dutchmen (22-19) will meet in the MIAA Tournament Championship at Woodworth Field on Saturday (May 11).

GAME ONE

Scoring Plays

Adrian broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly and extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a two-RBI double.

Kalamazoo scored its first run of the game in the seventh, with Lukas Bolton bringing in Robert Newland on an RBI single. The Hornets were on the comeback trail in the ninth after loading the bases with one out. Logan Lockhart brought Newland in with a sacrifice fly, but the comeback bid stopped there. 

Pitching

Braden Mussat (5-2) suffered the loss after lasting three innings before leaving with an injury. He allowed a run on three hits and a walk.

Logan Lockhart pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. Owen Schihl threw scoreless seventh and eighth innings with two strikeouts.

Hitting

Robert Newland went 2-4 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Lukas Bolton and Logan Lockhart each had a hit and an RBI. 

GAME TWO

Scoring Plays

The Hope starting pitchers both threw nine-inning complete game shutouts today on the way to the MIAA Tournament Championship. The Flying Dutchmen's offense scored five runs in the third and another in the fourth on the way to the win.

Pitching

Robert Ahlgren (5-2) suffered the loss after lasting three innings, allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Reece Omodio threw the next two innings with one unearned run crossing the plate.

Joe Wade, Braden Mussat, and Brenden Oprinski all threw scoreless innings, with Wade striking out one and Oprinski striking out two.

Hitting

Ryar Rinehart went 2-4, while Cooper Mills, David Stechow, and Lukas Bolton each had a hit.
