Five Football Hornets named to All-MIAA teams

Five members of the Kalamazoo College football team were recognized with All-MIAA honors as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Alex Dietrich and Connor Rzeznik were named to the All-MIAA First Team while B.J. Cagney, Alan Mencer and Dylan Zerki were named to the All-MIAA Second Team.

Dietrich, a senior wide receiver from Gobles (Lawton HS), led the MIAA in receptions (7.17/game) and receiving yards (93.0/game) in conference play. He also ranked second in punt returns (5.2 yards/return), fifth in all-purpose yards (106.0 yards/game) and ninth in scoring (5.0 points/game).

Rzeznik, a senior linebacker from Walled Lake (Walled Lake Central HS), ranked sixth in the league with 60 total tackles (10.0/game) in conference play with one sack.

Cagney, a 6-2, 260 lb. senior center from Leonidas (Vicksburg HS), was recognized as one of the league's top offensive lineman.

Mencer, a senior defensive lineman from Novi (Novi HS), ranked eighth in the league with 3.5 sacks (.58/game) and 30th in tackles (5.08/game).

Zerki, a junior linebacker from Waterford (Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS), ranked fifth with 70 total tackles (11.7/game) and fifth with 1.5 tackles for loss per game.

Kalamazoo wrapped up the 2014 season last Saturday with a 30-29 win at Hope in the "Battle of the Wooden Shoes".
