Football falls to Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 72-40 to Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Albion scored the first 16 points of the game, but led just 16-10 after the first quarter. Kalamazoo was still within six points (23-17) midway through the second quarter, but the Britons pulled ahead 37-19 by halftime.

A quick Kalamazoo touchdown to start the second half made it 37-26 Albion, but the Britons scored the next 28 points to lead 65-26 at the end of the third quarter. Kalamazoo scored twice in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter but was unable to get any closer in the team's conference opener.

Kalamazoo put up 544 yards of total offense, but allowed 665 yards. 

Clay Wilkey led the Hornets rushing attack with 57 yards on 12 carries.

Alex White was 18-of-40 passing for 358 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Brock Rucinski was 2-of-5 for 85 yards including a 71-yard touchdown.

Collin Feilla led the receivers with 131 yards and a touchdown. K.J. Schultz (78 yards) and Mason Sarosi (72 yards) each had five receptions. Elijah Hamilton-Wray had two catches for 67 yards and a score. Brett Lehman scored on the 71-yard touchdown reception.

Quentin Sweeney and Dylan Zerki each had 15 tackles to lead the Kalamazoo defense. Sean Bauer had 12 tackles. Octavius Sanders had eight tackles with an interception and a fumble recovery. 

Kalamazoo returns to action at Alma College next Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
