Kalamazoo College's Jakob Frederick was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for his performance in Kalamazoo's 31-30 win over Adrian on Saturday.
Frederick, a senior from Spring Lake, Mich. (Spring Lake HS), led the Hornets in tackles this week with 11. Of those 11 tackles, four were solo tackles and seven were assisted.
Following Saturday's win, Frederick moved himself into a tie for fourth in the MIAA in total tackles (34) and fifth in tackles per game (8.5). His 4.5 tackles for loss on the season are also good for a tie for fifth in the conference.
This marks the second time Frederick has been honored with the award in his career. He was also named an All-MIAA First Team linebacker last season.
Frederick becomes the second Hornet to be named Defensive Player of the Week (Joe Piet). Kicker Greg Kearns was also named Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this season.
Kalamazoo (4-0) looks to remain undefeated as they travel to Finlandia University on Saturday, Oct. 6. Kickoff against the Lions is scheduled for 1 p.m.
