Football Falls at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 66-20 at Hope College on Saturday.

Kalamazoo led 7-0 after its opening drive and scored again late in the first to tie the game at 14-14 after one quarter. Hope scored four times in the second quarter to take a 42-14 lead into halftime.

The Flying Dutchmen added 10 points in the third quarter before outscoring the Hornets 14-6 in the fourth.

Kalamazoo turned the ball over three tims in the game. Hope did not have any turnovers.

Josh Nichols was 25-of-43 passing for 279 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Dawon Skupin was 3-of-6 for 55 yards. 

Jonah Spates led the offense with 164 yards on 14 catches including a 39-yard touchdown. His 14 receptions in a game tied for the second-most in school history.

Andrew Widger had three catches for 67 yards. Lance Taylor had five catches for 58 yards and an 11-yard touchdown on the opening drive. Bubba Wilson had two catches for 25 yards including a 23-yard touchdown.

Jake Robertson led the Hornet defense with 10 total tackles including one sack. Tommy Kartes and Carson Deines each had nine tackles. Payton Fleming finished with eight tackles including 1.5 for loss. 

The Hornets are off next week before hosting Trine in the season finale on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
