Josh Nichols and Ian Burr of the Kalamazoo College football team were named the MIAA Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 5). This is the first time in Nichols' four-year career that he has earned the honor, while Burr has been named a player of the week for the third team.

Kalamazoo hosted Oberlin in its season opener on Sept. 2 and got a 42-10 win to begin 2023.

Nichols paced the team offensively by going 23-35 with 298 yards and five touchdowns, which ties a career-high for touchdowns thrown in a game. He finished the game with a 65.7% completion percentage and had a long of 39 yards. Nichols also added three rushes for 17 yards on the ground. For his career, Nichols has played in 21 games, throwing for 3,661 yards on a 53.5% completion percentage with 30 touchdowns.

Burr handled the kickoff and punting duties for the Hornets this past week. He had four touchbacks on six kickoffs and averaged 51.7 yards per kick. The Yeomen did not start a drive beyond the 25-yard line, and Burr even recovered on an onside kick towards the end of the first half. In the punt game, Burr averaged 41 yards per punt, with his long being 55 yards, and had three of the four downed inside the 20-yard line.

The Hornets will hit the road for the first time this season by traveling to Kenyon on Saturday (Sept. 9).
