Football Wins 48-16 at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College football team improved to 2-0 with a 48-16 win at Kenyon College Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter after rushing touchdowns by Jon Brunette and Josh Nichols. Kalamazoo made it 19-0 early in the second when Nichols connected with Braeden Lavis on an 84-yard touchdown pass.

Kenyon got on the board with a field goal with 5:35 left in the second. An Ian Burr field goal on the next drive put Kalamazoo up 22-3. The Hornets forced a fumble on Kenyon's next possession and Dillon Gacki returned it for a touchdown to go up 29-3 just before halftime.

Kenyon made it 29-9 with a touchdown midway through the third quarter. Brunette's second rushing touchdown made it 36-9 in favor of Kalamazoo. 

Dawson Skupin connected with Jonah Spates early in the fourth to put Kalamazoo up 42-9. A Kenyon touchdown made it 42-16 before Skupin connected with Devin Yankee with 5:54 remaining leading to the 48-16 final.

Kalamazoo put up 463 yards of total offense while holding Kenyon to 270.

Josh Nichols was 19-of-36 passing for 269 yards. Dawson Skupin was 4-for-4 for 73 yards.

Jon Brunette finished with 91 yards rushing on 13 carries. 

Braeden Lavis had one caatch for 84 yards. Lucas Hanifan had five catches for 80 yards. Devin Yankee had four catches for 64 yards. Jonah Spates finished with five catches for 57 yards.

Carson Deines led the defense with eight tackles, including a sack.

Jack Miller and Corey Garrison each had six tackles. Raymond Cargill, Brenden Moat and Bryce Balabuch also had sacks. Gabe Meyers had an interception.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Defiance College next Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m.
