Tommy Kartes of the Kalamazoo College football team was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Sept. 18). This is the first time in Kartes' three-year career that he has earned the honor.
Kalamazoo remained undefeated with a 42-35 home win over Defiance.
Kartes paced the Hornet defense with 15 tackles, five solo and 10 assisted. He also gathered 0.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Kartes picked up 10 more tackles in the two previous games before Defiance, bringing his season total to 25, which is second on the team to Carson Deines. For his career, Kartes has amassed 62 tackles (22 solo and 40 assisted) in 18 games, with one tackle for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.
The Hornets have a week off this coming weekend before beginning conference play at Albion on Saturday (Sept. 30).
