Lucas Hanifan of the Kalamazoo College football team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 3).
Kalamazoo began MIAA play with a road game at Albion on Sept. 30 and lost for the first time this season 44-17.
Hanifan paced the Hornet receiving core with nine catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. This marks career-highs for catches and yards in a game for Hanifan. The touchdown came with six seconds left in the first half as Josh Nichols found Hanifan on a nine-yard strike to close the deficit to 14 points. Hanifan leads the team in four games this season with 22 catches and 348 receiving yards, averaging 15.8 yards per catch with four touchdowns.
The sophomore from Chelsea, Mich., played sparingly in his first season as a Hornet, making eight catches for 61 yards and a touchdown last season. Hanifan has 30 catches for 409 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. He also helps out Kalamazoo in the return game, averaging 19 yards per return in 30 chances.
The Hornets will return to Angell Field, hosting Olivet on homecoming weekend to continue MIAA play on Saturday (Oct. 7).
