Football Drops Home Finale to Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its final home game of the season 63-17 to Hope College Saturday afternoon at Angell Field.

Kalamazoo took the opening drive 55 yards on 14 plays before an interception at the 3-yardline ended the drive. Hope scored four plays later to go up 7-0.

A safety gave Hope a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Hope took a 16-0 lead early in the second before Kalamazoo made it 16-7 on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Josh Nichols to Lucas Hanifan.

Hope followed up with a pair of touchdowns before Ian Burr's 40-yard field goal at the end of the first half made it a 29-10 contest.

Hope scored on its first possession of the third quarter to go up 36-10. Josh Nichols scored on a 6-yard pass from Lucas Hanifan with 9:59 left in the third making it 36-17.

The Flying Dutchmen scored two more times in the third and twice in the fourth while holding Kalamazoo scoreless the rest of the way.

Josh Nichols finished 20-of-40 passing for 223 yards.

Lucas Hanifan led the receivers with four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown reception. Hanifan also threw a touchdown pass to Nichols.

Tyler Houle had three catches for 47 yards. Jonah Spates had four catches for 26 yards.

Jon Brunette carried the ball 18 times for 52 yards. He also had two catches for 28 yards.

Raymond Cargill led the Hornet defense with 15 total tackles. Jack Miller finished with 10.

Kalamazoo travels to Greenville University (Ill.) next Saturday for a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Central.
