Madison Barch of the Kalamazoo College football team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
Kalamazoo traveled to Trine in MIAA action to finish the season on Nov. 11 and was defeated by the Thunder 42-29.
Barch converted on all three extra-point opportunities against the Thunder after two receiving touchdowns by Sam Hughes and another by Conner Bell. Then, after a touchdown run by Josh Nichols, the Hornets ran a fake field goal that allowed Barch to catch a two-point conversion. Those two points are believed to be the first non-kicking points scored by a woman in NCAA history. On the season, Barch handled most of the extra-point responsibilities for Kalamazoo this season, going 25/29 for an 86% conversion rate. Barch has made 35/41 extra points in her four-year career, an 85% success rate.
The Hornets finished the 2023 regular season with a 5-5 (1-5 MIAA), picking up its first MIAA win since 2019 after defeating Adrian 45-23. The Hornets were a perfect 4-0 in non-conference play with wins over Oberlin, Kenyon, Defiance, and Greenville.
