Men's Basketball defeats York (Pa.), 72-64

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team defeated York College (Pa.) 72-64 in non-conference play at the Rhodes College Tournament on Friday.

There were 12 lead changes in the first half while Kalamazoo led by as many 10 points (23-13) with 8:23 remaining. The Hornets ended up trailing 35-34 at halftime.

The second half saw nine lead changes and the Hornets were down one (52-51) with 10:10 left to play. Mark Ghafari hit a three-pointer to put Kalamazoo up 54-52 and the Hornets remained on top the rest of the way.

Both teams shot 46.2 percent from the field, but the Hornets made two additional three-pointers and six more free throws proving to be the difference. Kalamazoo held a 32-27 advantage in rebounds while turning the ball over just 12 times compared to 17 for York.

Eric Fishman led the Hornets with 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Mark Ghafari scored 24 points with three rebounds and a pair of steals.

Aaron Schoenfeldt scored eight points with six rebounds. Carter Goetz grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo will play the winner of tonight's Rhodes/Knox game on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
