INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Kalamazoo senior Grant Carey is among the 202 nominees for the 2014 Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches Good Works Team.

The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have shown exemplary leadership and have taken time away from daily routine to volunteer for their communities in areas of need.

A native of Roscommon, Mich., Carey is double-majoring in business and biology and carries a 3.9 cumulative grade point average. Carey serves as the President for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Health Professions Society at Kalamazoo College.

Carey has volunteered countless hours at Bronson Methodist Hospital as well as tutoring at a local elementary school. He is currently a research intern at the University of Michigan.

"There couldn't be a better nomination," Kalamazoo Head Coach Eric Dougal said. "Grant [Carey] is the epitome of the student-athlete and he exemplifies what we stress here at Kalamazoo College."

Carey serves as a team captain, leading K to a 3-1 record in the 2013-14 season, and is averaging 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
