KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team fell 90-72 to Calvin in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18.

Freshman guard Adam Dykema led the Hornets with 18 points on 7-12 shooting while junior forward Adam Peters added 16 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Josh Whitney was the other Hornet to finish in double figures with 10 points.

Kalamazoo senior guard Mark Ghafari was held to a season-low eight points.

Calvin, which came into the game with 10-4 record and 3-1 in MIAA play, took a 23-13 lead with 11:13 to play in the first half. Five minutes later, the lead was still 10 points, but a quick 6-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Mark Ghafari in transition cut the Knight lead to four points.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, Calvin ended the half on a 7-1 run of its own and took a 46-35 lead into halftime.

The deficit grew to 17 points (57-40) when Jordan Brink scored three of his 22 points on a triple from the wing.

Kalamazoo would respond with a 10-0 run and get to 57-50, but could get no closer. The front court and inside game of the Knights closed out the game.

Calvin center Tyler Kruis finished with 27 points on 12-15 shooting. As a team, Calvin shot 62.5 percent from the field. That, along with a 38-19 rebounding advantage was too much for K to overcome.

Both teams shot the three-pointer well. Kalamazoo finished 11-22 from beyond the arc while Calvin finished 7-14.

With the loss, Kalamazoo dips to 6-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Hornets will attempt to stop their two-game skid Wednesday, Jan. 22 with at 8:00 p.m. game at Adrian.
