Kalamazoo defeats Earlham 56-43

Stephen Oliphant playing basketball

The men's basketball team defeated Earlham 56-43 this afternoon to finish 2-0 in the MIAA/HCAC challenge and move to 2-1 this season.

The Hornets never trailed in the contest after Keith Garber tied the game 14-14 about 12 minutes into the first half. Kalamazoo produced consistently on the offensive end from the top of the roster to the bottom. No player on the Hornets reached double figures but as a team they shot 61 percent with 11 different players breaking into the scoring category.

Stephen Oliphant was a nice defensive spark off the bench, picking up two steals in 14 minutes of action. Carl Ghafari held it down for the Hornets with a team-high eight rebounds. The team played a very unselfish brand of basketball piling up 13 assists on 24 field goals.

The Hornets next game will be their home opener against Purdue-Calumet Wed, Dec. 3.
