Men's Basketball wins home opener over Purdue Calumet

The men's basketball team won its home opener 61-46 over Purdue-Calumet on Wednesday night. The Hornets are off to a great start this year and are now 3-1 overall.

Kalamazoo took control of the game early by jumping out to a 8-0 lead in the first seven minutes. The Hornets never trailed for the entirety of the game and went into the break holding a 27-20 lead.

Adam Peters had another monster game with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Peters is playing excellent so far this season averaging 15.2 points per game on an outstanding 56.2 percent from the floor. Peters is also averaging 4.2 rebounds a game.

Josh Miller helped keep the Peregrines out of the paint all night and had two blocks. He also led the team in scoring with 13 points and added four rebounds. Keith Garber was hot from outside and went 2/3 from beyond the three point line and chipped in ten points.

In their three victories this year the Hornets have beaten teams by an average of 14.33 points. It would be unrealistic to think they can hold this kind of dominance for the length of the season, especially in conference play, but it's definitely an encouraging statistic.

The men will head back on the road Saturday, Dec. 6 to take on North park.
