Kalamazoo defeats the Mustangs on the road

Josh Miller playing basketball

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won 53-51 on the road at Marygrove on Wednesday night. The Hornets have won four of their last five games and are now 4-2 overall this season.

The Hornets jumped out to a 10-2 lead six minutes into the game and went on an 8-0 run in the final 4:24 of the half to take a 25-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Mustangs tied the game at 46-46 with 2:54 left to go and the Hornets ten-point halftime lead had completely vanished. Three point field goals from Scott Wharam and Adam Peters in the game's final two minutes helped Kalamazoo hold on and get out of Marygrove with the 53-51 victory.

Josh Miller had a massive game for the Hornets, scoring 13 points and grabbing a team high seven rebounds. Adam Peters also added 13 points and Adam Dykema scored 10 points in twelve minutes in his first action of the season. The Hornets were very effective from downtown, hitting five of their 10 three point attempts. Kalamazoo was also dominant on the boards; outrebounding the Mustangs 51-28. The Hornets were able to score 18 second chance points off 16 offensive rebounds which had a huge impact on the game.

Kalamazoo committed a disappointing 27 turnovers, which is more than it had in its first three games combined. If the Hornets had been more careful with the ball the game probably wouldn't have been as close as it was.

The Hornets will head home to take on Chicago on Saturday, Dec, 13.
