Hornets struck by Thunder

Keith Garber playing basketball

The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 71-59 to Trine at home on Wednesday night. The Hornets fall to 6-8 overall this season and 1-2 in conference play.

The game started out pretty evenly on both sides. It was tied 12-12 about seven minutes into the first half, then the MIAA's second leading scorer Will Dixon began taking over for Trine. Dixon and teammate Jake Bagley combined to score 30 first half points and gave the Thunder a 45-20 lead heading into the half.

Kalamazoo was never able to get back to within striking distance in the second half. Jake Whitney led the team with 11 points and five rebounds and Adam Dykema went for 10 points but there was no way for Kalamazoo to keep up with the Thunder who continued to rain down three point shots. Bagley hit his first five threes in a row and finished the game 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Josh Miller had seven points, three rebounds, and two steals, but his teammates just couldn't find him on the pick and roll. Almost every time the Hornets tried to run the play it was broken up by the Thunder one way or another. Kalamazoo wound up committing 18 turnovers to the Thunder's seven.

Kalamazoo will look to bounce back Saturday, Jan. 15 at Calvin.
