SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team earned its first win of the season Wednesday evening in a close down to the wire game with host Lawrence Tech. The Hornets defeated the Blue Devils, 70-64.

Kalamazoo took control of the game early on jumping out to a 13-3 lead at the 15:24 mark of the first half on a made field goal from Mike Oravetz.

The Hornets extended their lead to 12 with 11:15 remaining in the first and held a comfortable 31-22 lead heading into halftime.

The Blue Devils fought their way back into the game in the second half, though, and found themselves down just one with 13:54 remaining.

Despite the pressure, the Hornets never surrendered their lead in the second half and two free throws from Adam Dykema with five seconds left iced the game.

Chase Baysdell led the way with 24 points and nine rebounds in the game for the Hornets. Dykema also scored in double figures with 18.

Oravetz ended the night with seven points while Charlie Carson and Josh Miller each had six points.

The Hornets shot 41 percent from the floor and 79 percent from the free throw line.

Kalamazoo will continue its non-conference season on Dec. 15 when they travel to Defiance.
