Adrian slips past men's basketball in season finale

ADRIAN, Mich. – In the final game of the 2015-16 season Saturday afternoon, the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team came up just short as hosting Adrian College pulled away from the Hornets in the final minutes coming away with a 79-72 win.  

Kalamazoo jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Adrian countered with a 7-0 run of its own in the first four minutes of play.

Tied 18-18 with 10:33 to play in the first half, Adrian used a 9-2 run over the next two and half minutes of play to propel itself to a marginal six point lead at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Kalamazoo found its rhythm starting the second half on a 13-2 run allowing them to hold a 48-44 lead with 15:27 to play.

Kalamazoo extended its lead to as large as 10 with 7:44 to go, but the Bulldogs continued to chip away.

Up 72-67 with exactly three minutes to play, Kalamazoo hit a scoring drought allowing the Bulldogs to score the final 12 points of the afternoon.

Josh Miller and Chase Baysdell led the way offensively for the Hornets as they each ended with 17 points. Miller recorded a team-high six rebounds with Baysdell adding four assists.

Josh Whitney gave Kalamazoo a strong all-around performance with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

Tommy Cerven also scored in double figures for K, making 5-of-10 shots to end the afternoon with 11 points.

The Hornets protected the ball well turning the ball over just six times in the 40 minutes of play. K shot 43.6 percent from the field but just 16.7 percent from behind the three point arc.
