KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Jay Smith era got underway Saturday afternoon for the Kalamazoo College men's basketball program as the Hornets made their way down the street for a crosstown exhibition with Division I foe Western Michigan. The Broncos prevailed, 108-57.

Kalamazoo made it a point of emphasis to get to the rim and draw contact throughout the game as the Hornets had 37 attempts from the charity stripe.

Tommy Cerven stood out for the Hornets on the offensive end of the floor scoring 14 points in 22 minutes. He was 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from behind the arc.

Roger Hood and Jimmy Paprocki each recorded nine points with six and seven rebounds, respectively.

The Hornets shot 38 percent from the field and were outrebounded just 41-37 by the physically bigger Broncos.

Kalamazoo will continue its preparation for the regular season over the next two weeks before the Hornets open the 2016-17 season with a home game against Manchester University on Nov. 18.
