Men's Basketball's late comeback not enough

OLIVET, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team fell on the road at Olivet College, 81-72, Saturday evening but the Hornets didn't go down without a fight.

Playing the Comets to a 34-34 deadlock at halftime, Kalamazoo found itself down by as much as 14 points midway through the second half but showed its resilience down the stretch.

Beginning at the 11:27 mark of the second half, the Hornets rattled off a 17-4 run and found themselves down just 61-60 with 7:33 to play. The Hornets took their first lead of the second half with 4:57 remaining when Tanner Blyly drilled a three-pointer giving them a 65-64 advantage.

Kalamazoo held a two-point lead as late as the 2:41 mark of the game but the Comets closed the game on a 13-2 run on their way to a win.

Chase Baysdell was efficient from the floor scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. 13 of his 18 points came in the first half.

Josh Whitney also scored in double figures for Kalamazoo recording 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds, completing his double-double.

Josh Miller and Tanner Blyly each ended the evening with nine points.

Kalamazoo crashed the glass hard in the contest outrebounding Olivet, 46-27.

The Hornets continue MIAA play with a midweek contest in Anderson Athletic Center against Calvin College on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
