Men's Basketball falls to Chicago

Roger Hood playing basketball.

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was defeated on the road 75-56 by the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tight throughout the majority of the first half as both teams shot below 40 percent from the floor. The Maroons held a narrow lead for the first 15 minutes before stretching it nine points in the final minutes to take a 35-26 halftime lead.

Kalamazoo cut the deficit to one point in the opening minutes of the second period before Chicago went on a 12-3 run to rebuild its lead. The Hornets could not make a meaningful dent in the advantage as the second half progressed and Chicago shot 47.1 percent from three point range led by Jake Fenlon, who scored 20 of his game high 22 points in the period.

For the game, K shot 40 percent from the field compared to 36.8 percent for the Maroons, but Chicago made twice as many three pointers and shot 16 more free throws than the Hornets to make the difference in the game.

Roger Hood led K with 16 points in 16 minutes of action while Jeremiah Vincent added eight points and eight rebounds. Jarnard Smith chipped in nine points off the bench for Kalamazoo.

The Hornets will return to the Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday, Dec. 6 as they take on St. Francis (Ill.) at 8 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team.
