Men's Basketball Drops Game at Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team fell on the road to the University of Chicago by a final score of 100-84.

The Maroons gained an early advantage and eventually saw that lead grow to 15 points with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Kalamazoo rallied back with a run of its own to cut the deficit to just one point in about five game minutes. Chicago used the final five minutes of the first half to go on a run of its own and take a 55-43 advantage to the halftime break. 

Beginning the second half on a 6-0 run, Chicago gained an 18-point advantage and never looked back. The Hornets cut into the deficit and were down just 11 with about 14 minutes remaining, but were unable to complete a comeback. 

Kalamazoo shot 50 percent from the field (29-58) compared to Chicago's 60.9 percent shooting (39-64). The Hornets connected on nine of 20 three-pointers. 

The Maroons held a 35-23 rebounding advantage and assisted on 23 baskets while Kalamazoo assisted on 11. 

Ben Reiter led the team on the offensive end with 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists. 

Jarnard Smith added 14 points and four assists from off the bench.

Tanner Blyly was the third Hornet in double figures with 13 points. 

The Hornets return to play on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Spring Arbor. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.
