Men's Basketball Loses Back-and-Forth Game Against Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth contest at home against Trine on Saturday as the Thunder came out with a 90-77 victory. 

Kalamazoo got out to a great start as it led for the first eight minutes of the game before a Trine three-pointer put the Thunder up 15-14. The Hornets bounced back with a run of their own to gain a 24-19 advantage with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half. A Ben Reiter layup with 2:51 on the clock before the break put Kalamazoo back on top before Trine closed with an 11-4 run to take a 44-38 lead into the locker rooms. 

The Thunder obtained their lead for nearly five minutes in the first half until Kalamazoo's run put it ahead 53-52. After trading baskets, the two teams were tied at 60 with 11:16 to go. Trine outscored Kalamazoo 30-17 in those final 11 minutes to close out the game. 

The game featured 17 lead changes and five moments where the score was tied. 

The Hornets shot the ball at a 45.5 percent clip (30-66) and connected on eight of their 29 three-point attempts. Kalamazoo out-rebounded Trine 38-32 and assisted on 20 of its 30 made baskets. 

Tanner Blyly continued his impressive senior campaign with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. 

Fellow senior Ben Reiter added 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists. 

Jeremiah Vincent tallied a double-double as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while coming off the bench. 

Thomas Cook added 11 points for the Hornets. 

Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 when it hosts Adrian at Anderson Athletic Center at 7:30 p.m.
