Men's Basketball Wins at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won 91-72 at Hope College on Saturday.

Hope scored the first five points of the game but Kalamazoo took over the lead (8-7) just three minutes into the game and led 22-18 midway through the first half. The Hornets were up by 10 points with 4:29 left in the first half before taking a 42-35 lead into halftime.

The Flying Dutchmen cut the deficit to one (51-50) with 13:45 left in the second half before an 11-1 run by the Hornets put Kalamazoo up 12 (63-51) with 9:23 remaining. Kalamazoo led by 15 (73-58) with 5:35 left. Hope was down 12 with 4:24 remaining but the Hornets were able to extend the lead over the final minutes to secure the win.

Kalamazoo shot 53.6 percent overall compared to 41.8 percent by Hope. The Hornets sank 10-of-20 3-pointers while Hope made just 4-of-26. Kalamazoo also made 21-of-27 free throws compared to 12-of-21 by Hope.

Kalamazoo held a 37-33 advantage in rebounds.

Tanner Blyly led the Hornets with 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Tre Humes added 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting putting his collegiate career total at 1,001 points.

Merritt Hamann scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Jeremiah Vincent scored 13 points with a team-high nine rebounds. Ben Reiter scored 13 points with six rebounds and six assists.

Kalamazoo is back home for Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 19 as the Hornets take on Calvin at 7:30 p.m.
