Men's Basketball Defeated at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 61-49 at Calvin University on Wednesday.

There were multiple lead changes in the first half with Calvin taking a two-point lead (32-30) into halftime.

After Kalamazoo trailed 35-34 early in the second half, Calvin went on a 13-0 run to take a 48-34 lead with 13:51 remaining. The Hornets were down 10 (55-45) with 7:02 left to play but were unable to get any closer in the final minutes.

Calvin shot 46.3 percent from the field while limiting Kalamazoo to 29.6 percent. The host Knights also outrebounded Kalamazoo 39-30.

Merritt Hamann led the Hornets with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Ty Horky also reached double figures with 13 points.

Jack Smith and Bobby Samples scored six points apiece. Thomas Cook added five points with 11 rebounds.

Kalamazoo closes out the regular season at home Saturday, Feb. 27 against Hope. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
