Men's Basketball Season Ends in Narrow Loss at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team's season came to an end with a 60-54 loss at Calvin University in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Kalamazoo fell behind early before taking a lead as high as six points twice in the first half. Calvin regained the lead and took a 31-27 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo opened the second half with a 10-0 run to take a 37-31 lead four minutes into the half. The Hornets held a lead a single-digit lead all the way to the 4:38 mark when Calvin pulled ahead 48-47. The Knights pulled ahead by as many seven while outscoring the Hornets 12-7 down the stretch to secure the six-point win.

Calvin shot 38.6 percent overall compared to 35.2 percent by Kalamazoo. The Hornets held a 41-40 edge in rebounds but turned the ball over three more times than Calvin.

Ty Horky led the Hornets with 13 points, two assists, and two steals.

Thomas Cook and Merritt Hamann each scored 12 points with 6 rebounds. Hamann also had four assists and two steals.

Jack Smith finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals.
