Ty Horky of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 10).
The men's basketball team began conference play for the 2023 portion of the schedule with a home game against Alma on Jan. 4 and a road contest at Adrian on Jan. 7. After Kalamazoo dropped its first MIAA game against the Scots 75-58, the team gained a thrilling double overtime win over the Bulldogs 87-86.
Horky led the Hornets to that 1-1 record to begin conference play by averaging 20.5 points per game on 47.1% (16-34) shooting, including a 43.8% (7-16) three-point percentage. He also collected six steals, four assists, and three rebounds in the two games. Coming off the bench against Alma, Horky led Kalamazoo with 15 points on six made field goals, with three coming from downtown. Then, he got the start against Adrian and made the most of it by scoring a season-high 26 points. This is the third-highest point total Horky has scored in his three seasons at Kalamazoo after scoring 27 and 38 last season.
On the season, Horky has appeared in 12 games and has made seven starts. In 26.3 minutes per game, he is the team's third-leading scorer at 11.2 points per game while also averaging 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. For his career, Horky is also currently averaging 11.2 points per game on 38.8% shooting, including 33.7% from beyond the arc.
Kalamazoo will continue MIAA play by returning to the Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday (Jan. 11) to host Albion, as tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
