Men's Basketball Defeats Ohio Northern

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 67-61 win over Ohio Northern University at home Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo opened the game on a 10-0 run before leading 17-1 with 11:26 left in the first half. The Hornets took a 36-16 lead into halftime.

Ohio Northern clawed back in the second half and cut the deficit two two (63-61) with about 25 seconds remaining. Ty Horky sank four free throws in the final 23 seconds to seal the win.

Kalamazoo shot 38.8 percent overall compared to 34.8 percent by Ohio Northern. Kalamazoo made 9-of-25 3-pointers compared to 8-of-34 by ONU. The Hornets sank 20-of-30 free throws compared to 7-of-14 by the Polar Bears.

Kalamazoo also outrebounded Ohio Northern 49-35, including 11-10 on the offensive end.

Ty Horky led the Hornets with 24 points and eight rebounds. Horky shot 6-of-10 from the field including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. He also sank 7-of-8 free throws.

Carter Bandemer scored 12 points with eight rebounds and three assists.

Gabriel Sharp added 10 points. Lukas Broadsword finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. Bobby Samples scored seven points with four assists. Patrick Perez added six points with six rebounds.

Kalamazoo will face Grace Christian University next at home on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.
