Men's Basketball Falls to #9 Case Western

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team traveled to #9 Case Western in non-conference action on Saturday (Dec. 2). After trailing by only 10 at the half, the Hornets could not keep up with the Spartans, falling 100-73.

Kalamazoo and Case Western traded buckets for the first part of the first half as the lead changed hands eight times, and the score was tied another seven. The Hornets held a 25-24 lead with 9:43 remaining in the half before the Spartans went on a 12-2 run to grab a nine-point advantage. K trimmed the deficit back down to four, but CWU scored 10 of the final 14 points in the half to take a 46-36 lead into the locker room. 

The Hornets hung around for the first eight minutes of the second half, keeping the deficit between eight and 13 points. The Spartans separated themselves with a 22-7 run over seven minutes, leading 84-57 with 6:36 on the clock. Both teams scored 16 points each before the final buzzer sounded. 

Kalamazoo shot 41.5% overall compared to Case Western's 56.7%. The Hornets made 11 of 26 (42.3%) three-pointers compared to 16 of 33 (48.5%) by the Spartans. Kalamazoo went 8 of 11 (72.7%) from the free throw line compared to 8 of 9 (88.9%) by Case Western. The Hornets had 31 rebounds compared to the Spartans' 36, while Kalamazoo had 14 assists on 27 made field goals.

Lukas Broadsword led Kalamazoo with 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Ty Horky (12), Patrick Perez (12), and Carter Bandemer (10) also finished with double-digit points. 

Bandemer also had four rebounds, while Bobby Samples (8), Dougie Blackwood (6), Lucas Hanifan (5), Connor Kouki (3), JJ Stevens (2), and DJ Ferguson (2) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo will be back in action with a road game at Lake Forest on Wednesday (Dec. 6), beginning at 7 p.m.
