Ty Horky of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Dec. 12).
Kalamazoo continued its season with a single non-conference road game at Lake Forest on Dec. 6. The Hornets captured their sixth win this season, surpassing the win total from 2022-23, after defeating the Foresters 89-81.
Horky scored nearly a third of Kalamazoo's 89 points, finishing with 29 while shooting 61.9% (13-21) from the field. He made two 3-pointers and a free throw and added six rebounds, two steals, and an assist. After falling behind 9-0 to begin the game, Horky scored 13 points in the first half, eventually leading to a Kalamazoo 49-45 lead at halftime. He hit a three early in the second half and was crucial down the stretch by scoring 13 of the final 20 points for the Hornets. Nine games into the season, Horky leads the MIAA in total points (168) and free throws made (30) while being second to Carter Bandemer in 3-pointers (22) and third in total rebounds (57). On the season, his averages are 18.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 51.8% from the field, 43.1% from the 3-point line, and 76.9% from the free throw line.
The Hornets will continue their season with two games in California, playing a neutral site game against Redlands on Monday (Dec. 18) and a road game at Cal Lutheran on Tuesday (Dec. 19).
