Men's Basketball Defeated by (RV) Redlands in California Neutral Site Matchup

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team played (RV) Redlands at a neutral site in non-conference action on Monday (Dec. 18). The Bulldogs led the Hornets from start to finish in the 101-58 ball game. 

Redlands leaped to a 14-point lead within the first six minutes of the half before Kalamazoo got back within six points with 12:10 on the clock. The Bulldogs' largest lead in the first half was 22 points as the scoreboard read 49-28 heading into halftime.

The deficit never got below 20 points for the Hornets as Redlands hit seven 3-pointers in the second half after making six in the first. The Bulldogs were also 9 of 10 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.

Kalamazoo shot 33.3% overall compared to Redlands' 52.3%. The Hornets made 10 of 32 (31.3%) 3-pointers compared to 13 of 34 (38.2%) by the Bulldogs. Kalamazoo went 10 of 18 (55.6%) from the free throw line compared to 20 of 28 (71.4%) by Redlands. The Hornets had 40 rebounds compared to the Bulldogs' 35, while Kalamazoo had 10 assists on 19 made field goals.

In his first game of the season and coming off the bench, Caleb Caul paced the Hornets with 15 points while grabbing four rebounds. Ty Horky scored 12 points and added three assists. DJ Ferguson also finished with double-digit points off the bench with 11. 

Alex Rueff grabbed a team-high five rebounds for Kalamazoo, with Horky dishing out the most assists. Patrick Perez (6), Rueff (6), Carter Bandemer (3), Gabriel Sharp (2), and Dougie Blackwood (2) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo will stay in California to play a road game at Cal Luthern on Tuesday (Dec. 19) at 5 p.m.
