Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team played at Cal Lutheran on Tuesday (Dec. 19). The Kingsmen shot 16 of 35 from behind the arc as the Hornets fell 86-49.

Kalamazoo held a couple of leads in the first five minutes of the first half before a Cal Lutheran 15-0 run led to a Hornet timeout at the 11:11 mark. After K got the deficit back down to 10, the Kingsmen closed the half on a 25-2 run to take a 50-17 lead into the half. Cal Luthern maintained a lead between 30 and 40 points for the entirety of the second half as Kalamazoo dropped its second game in California. 

Kalamazoo shot 34.7% overall compared to Cal Lutheran's 50.0%. The Hornets made 7 of 26 (26.9%) 3-pointers compared to 16 of 35 (45.7%) by the Kingsmen. Kalamazoo went 8 of 12 (66.7%) from the free throw line compared to 12 of 16 (75.0%) by Cal Lutheran. The Hornets had 27 rebounds compared to the Kingsmen's 39, while Kalamazoo had six assists on 17 made field goals.

Ty Horky led the team with 15 points on six field goals, including three from beyond the arc. JJ Stevens finished with nine points and five rebounds. Gabriel Sharp (7), Carter Bandemer (4), DJ Ferguson (4), Lucas Hanifan (4), Patrick Perez (2), Bobby Samples (2), and Caleb Caul (2) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo is done until Thursday (Jan. 4), when the Hornets host Trine in the MIAA opener at 7:30 p.m.
