Carter Bandemer of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 9).
Kalamazoo began 2024 with its MIAA schedule by hosting #12 Trine on Jan. 4 and traveling to #4 Calvin on Dec. 6. After playing two top-25 teams, the Hornets suffered two losses by falling to the Thunder 86-65 and the Knights 79-67.
Bandemer totaled 25 points and 11 rebounds in the two games against the top 25 teams, resulting in 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He also collected two blocks, an assist, and a steal. Bandemer made seven field goals, with six coming from beyond the arc and five of five from the free throw line. He nearly had a double-double against Calvin with 14 points and nine rebounds. On the season, Bandemer is the team's second-leading scorer at 11.2 points per game, shooting 42.7% from the field, 39.5% from three, and 80.0% from the free throw line. He also averages 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game and has started all 13 games for the Hornets.
The Hornets will continue MIAA play with a road game at Hope on Wednesday (Jan. 10) and a home game against Alma on Saturday (Jan. 13).
