Lucas Hanifan of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 16).
Kalamazoo continued its MIAA schedule by traveling to Hope on Jan. 10 and hosting Alma on Dec. 3. The Hornets went 1-1 on the week with a 73-55 loss at the Flying Dutchmen and a 91-90 overtime win against the Scots. 8, 4, 4
Hanifan had a career day against the Scots after playing in 29 minutes off the bench. He totaled a career-high 16 points by shooting 5-10 from the field, 1-3 from three, and 5-9 from the free throw line. Hanifan nearly notched a double-double with nine rebounds and also contributed five assists, three steals, and no turnovers. Those were all career-bests for the sophomore. On the season, Hanifan has totaled 34 points, 20 assists, 19 rebounds, and nine steals in 10 games. He was also a standout for the football team this past season, leading the team in receiving yards (803), kick returns (22), kick return yards (498), kick return average (22.6), all-purpose yards (1,301), and all-purpose yards average (130.1). Hanifan was also tied for the team lead in receptions (52) and receiving touchdowns (6) while being third on the team in points scored (38).
The Hornets will continue MIAA play with two home games against Olivet on Wednesday (Jan. 17) and Albion on Saturday (Jan. 20).
