Men's Basketball Falls to Adrian

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team continued MIAA play with a road game at Adrian on Wednesday (Jan. 20). In a game that featured nine lead changes and five ties, the Hornet's shooting went cold late in the second half as the Bulldogs prevailed 75-66.

Kalamazoo scored the first basket 49 seconds into the first half and maintained a lead for all but four minutes and 35 seconds of the first half. The Hornets' largest lead was seven, but an 11-2 run by Adrian heading into halftime gave the Bulldogs a 29-26 lead. 

Kalamazoo grabbed a lead two minutes into the second half, but another 12-2 run by Adrian made the score 41-33 at the 13:47 mark. The Hornets climbed back to within a couple of points multiple times throughout the second half. However, a 13-4 run by the Bulldogs sealed the deal with about five minutes left as Adrian finished the job for the nine-point win.

Kalamazoo shot 43.1% overall compared to Adrian's 40.3%. The Hornets made 7 of 25 (28.0%) 3-pointers compared to 10 of 29 (34.5%) by the Bulldogs. Kalamazoo went 15 of 20 (75.0%) from the free throw line compared to 15 of 18 (83.3%) by Adrian. The Hornets had 33 rebounds compared to the Bulldogs' 30, while Kalamazoo had eight assists on 22 made field goals.

Carter Bandemer led the team with 16 points, while Patrick Perez (11), Caleb Caul (10), and Lucas Hanifan (10) all registered double-digit points. Lukas Broadsword nearly had a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds, and Bobby Samples led the team with 10 rebounds and three assists. Dougie Blackwood (5), Samples (4), and Gabriel Sharp (2) also contributed to the scoring line.

Kalamazoo will continue conference play with another road game at Olivet on Saturday (Jan. 27), beginning at 3 p.m.
