Gabriel Sharp of the Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 20).
Kalamazoo completed its regular season and MIAA schedule with a road game at #7 Trine on Feb. 14 and a home game against Adrian on Feb. 17. The Hornets, unfortunately, lost in both instances, 105-74 to the Thunder and 66-65 to the Bulldogs.
Sharp averaged 18.5 points per game by shooting 46.2% (12-26) from the field, 45.5% (5-11) from three, and 88.9% (8-9) from the free throw line. He had his second-best game of the season against Adrian when he scored 26 points on eight field goals (including three three-pointers) and seven free throws while adding five rebounds. Playing in 13.3 minutes per game coming off the bench, Sharp averaged 11.2 points per game and shot 41.1% from the field. He had a career-high at Olivet on Jan. 27 with 27 points in just 19 minutes on the court.
The Hornets doubled their win total from last season with a 10-15 (4-10 MIAA) record. The last time the Hornets had double-digit wins was the 2013-14 season. The team averaged 72.0 points per game on 40.9% shooting and had 37.4 rebounds and 12.8 assists per game. Ty Horky (14.4), Carter Bandemer (12.4), Gabriel Sharp (11.2), and Lukas Broadsword (10.6) all averaged double-digit points per game. Broadsword led the team in rebounding (7.7 per game) and assists (2.7 per game).
