Ludka, Veenhuis Named All-America Scholars

Nick Ludka and Travis Veenhuis playing golf.

Kalamazoo College's Nick Ludka and Travis Veenhuis were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Both players were also named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll with 3.5 GPAs or higher.

Last year, Ludka and Veenhuis were the first Kalamazoo College juniors to achieve this recognition. This year, they are the first two-time recipients in Kalamazoo College history. Ludka, Veenhuis, and Phil Ritchie '17 are the only three honorees in school history.

Nick Ludka led the Hornets with a school-record 74.1 average this season. He shot a school-record 70.8 in conference play while shooting a season-best 68 in the final round of the MIAA Fall Tournament.

Travis Veenhuis shot 77.4 overall this season with a 76.0 average in league play. He shot a season-best 71 on two occasions.

Coached by Mitch Wilson, the Hornets finished fourth in the MIAA this past fall before finishing second at the MIAA Spring Qualifying Tournament, just four strokes out of first place.
