Tyler Omness Earns MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week Honors

Tyler Omness is looking to see the result of a put.

Tyler Omness of the Kalamazoo College men's golf team was selected as the MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week on Monday (Apr. 22). This is the first time that the junior has earned the honor.

The Hornets began the spring season by hosting the Steven Tyler Memorial on Apr. 15 before competing in the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational on Apr. 19-20. Kalamazoo finished fifth with a team score of 329 at the home event and then won the two-day event with a 637.

Omness shot a 77 at the par 72 Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich., which was good for a tie in third place. After the first day of the Yellow Jacket Invitational, he sat in third with a 79 but then shot a 75 on day two for a 154 total and a first-place finish. This was Omness' first time winning a tournament in his three-year collegiate career.

A two-time All-MIAA Second Team performer, Omness is currently averaging 76.3 strokes per round this season, including 75.8 in MIAA events. This is a bit better than his first two years at Kalamazoo, when he averaged 77.2 strokes per round in his first 35 events and 76.3 strokes in 12 MIAA events.

Kalamazoo will finish its short spring season at the MIAA Spring Finale on Friday and Saturday (Apr. 26-27) at the Legacy Golf Club.
