GREENCASTLE, Ind. – On an afternoon which will go down in history, the Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team battled and kept itself within striking distance throughout most of its first game ever against DePauw University.

Despite the Hornets' efforts, DePauw pulled away in the final quarter ultimately winning, 13-3.

After trailing 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, Zach Morales scored the first goal in Kalamazoo history on an assist from Clapton Marquis with 9:10 remaining in the first half. DePauw countered with a goal of its own to take a 3-1 lead into the half.

Thirty seconds into the second half, the Hornets picked up a Tiger turnover and took it the length of the field to make the score 3-2. Brett Fitzgerald scored his first goal of the season.

Kalamazoo scored its final goal of the game with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter when Marquis put one away on an assist from Kellen Radulski making the score 6-3.

Despite being outshot 39-22 in the contest, the Hornets showed plenty of fight picking up 33 ground balls. Kalamazoo held a 20-14 advantage in ground balls at halftime.

Michael Dutcher recorded 13 saves in goal for the Hornets, while Zach Ladd led the team with seven ground balls.

Kalamazoo will look to record its first win in program history when the Hornets host Concordia Chicago on Wednesday, March 2 at MacKenzie Field. Faceoff time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
