Men's Lacrosse falls in home opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team played its first home game in program history Saturday afternoon at MacKenzie Field, but the Hornets were unable to make the day extra special as they fell to Ohio Northern, 10-3.

ONU broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and extended its lead to 6-0 in the second before Clapton Marquis got the Hornets on the board with 4:30 to go in the first half.

In the second half, ONU scored four unanswered goals putting the game out of reach for the Hornets before K scored the final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter.

Marquis netted his second of the day making the score 10-2 and Brett Fitzgerald added the final goal of the game with 7:19 remaining. Nick Swain recorded an assist on Marquis' second goal.

Kalamazoo played ONU even in the ground balls category with each team recording 34.

The Hornets were outshot 32-21 and were successful on 13-of-17 clears.

Kalamazoo will take a week and a half break from competition before traveling to Defiance on April 6.
