Men's Lacrosse Wins at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team withstood a late surge by Alma to win 14-13 Saturday.

Kalamazoo never trailed in the game and led 7-3 after the first quater. The Hornets were up 10-5 in the second before Alma scored four goals in the final 4:37 to make it a 10-9 game at halftime. 

Kalamazoo scored the only three goals of the third quarter to lead 13-9 after 45 minutes of play.

Alma scored three goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to make it 13-12. Kalamazoo scored with 6:38 remaining to make it 14-12. Alma responded with a goal just 27 seconds later making it a one-goal game once again (14-13). Neither team would score the rest of the way as Alma's final four shot attempts to tie were unsuccessful.

Kalamazoo outshot Alma 37-35 overall, 24-22 on goal. Alma held a 26-25 edge in ground balls while winning 15 of the 29 faceoffs.

Logan Gillis led the Hornets with four goals and one assist. 

Ryan Warezak scored two goals with three assists. Jake Asnis scored two goals with one assist. Ethan Huebsch also scored two goals. Jack Jesko had two assists.

Jack Bungart had a team-high six ground balls and five caused turnovers. Sam Hughes had five ground balls.

Dylan Wickey made four saves in goal. Eric Paternoster was credited with five.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Calvin on Tuesday, April 18, at 7 p.m.
